Format: jpg
Size: 1 MB
Dimensions: 1166 x 1746
Caption: This memorial, built by Russia, is an eerie reminder of the infamous Battle of Suomussalmi. It is situated on the Raate Road, the invasion route for two Soviet divisions, and next to the mass grave of almost 20,000 Soviet and Ukrainian soldiers. The twisting branches of the trees above the monument are unique in a forest of pencil-straight pines and birches.
